Global Market Overview of Machine Glazed Kraft Paper

Table of Content [Hide]

Machine Glazed Paper (MG Paper) is a type of specialty kraft paper made from virgin fiber, wood pulp, recycled fiber, or blended pulp. It is produced through paper machine forming, pressing, and drying, and then processed with a Yankee dryer or large glazing cylinder. This process creates a smooth and glossy surface on one side, while the other side remains relatively rough and natural, offering strong adaptability for downstream converting and packaging applications.

MG paper is commonly supplied in reel or sheet form, with a basis weight range of approximately 20120 g/m². Depending on application needs, it can be produced in natural brown, white, bleached, semi-bleached, plain, embossed, wet-strength, food-grade, coated, laminated base paper, or silicone base paper formats. It combines the strength and flexibility of kraft paper with strong printability, coating compatibility, lamination performance, and heat-sealing adaptability.

According to QYResearch, the global MG paper market reached approximately USD 2.907 billion in 2025 and is expected to grow to USD 4.060 billion by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 4.9% during 20262032.

In 2025, the global production volume of MG paper is estimated at around 2.6 million tons, with an average market price of approximately USD 1,100 per ton. The industry continues to show stable expansion driven by packaging transformation and sustainable material demand.

From a global perspective, MG paper is increasingly evolving toward lightweight, high-strength, food-contact safe, recyclable, and plastic-replacement packaging solutions. As brand owners and packaging manufacturers continue to reduce plastic usage, MG paper is gaining importance in food packaging, retail bags, industrial packaging, and flexible packaging applications.

Compared with traditional machine-finished kraft paper, MG paper offers a smoother printing surface and better visual presentation. At the same time, it retains the natural fiber strength required for converting processes such as bag making, coating, lamination, waxing, and silicone treatment.

Key market drivers include the global shift toward paper-based and recyclable packaging, the rising demand for food delivery and e-commerce packaging, and increasing requirements for cost efficiency and supply chain stability. In addition, regulatory pressure on plastic reduction continues to accelerate the substitution of plastic-based packaging with paper-based materials.

As a professional paper supplier, Golden Paper closely follows the development of MG paper and other specialty packaging grades. With growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions, MG paper is expected to remain an important segment in the global kraft paper and flexible packaging industry.
