Southeast Asia Specialty Paper Demand Continues to Upgrade

As manufacturing and export industries in Southeast Asia continue to expand, the specialty paper market is entering a new phase of upgrading. From food packaging to electronics, from medical applications to thermal printing, demand for higher performance and regulatory-compliant paper materials is steadily increasing.

Currently, the region's overall self-sufficiency rate for specialty paper remains below 60%. High-end grades still rely heavily on imported supply. With global regulations tightening on Bisphenol A (BPA), Southeast Asia's thermal paper market is undergoing a clear transition toward eco-friendly alternatives.

BPA-free thermal paper is gradually becoming the mainstream choice across retail, logistics, and receipt printing applications. In addition, some applications are moving toward plastic-free structures to reduce environmental impact and support corporate sustainability goals.

As global electronics manufacturing continues to expand in Southeast Asia, driven by companies such as Samsung and other supply chain players, demand for high-frequency and high-speed substrate paper is increasing rapidly.

These materials require excellent dielectric performance, dimensional stability, and processing consistency. As a result, they are considered high-value specialty paper products, with premium grades still largely dependent on imported supply chains.
